We understand wellness not only as industry professionals, but as passionate spa-goers and advocates for spa-going.

We believe spas are about wellness, specifically as a lifestyle rather than services or a destination. As such, we build spa brands that are built upon a foundation of wellness with an effective balance of purpose and profit.

Through years of international spa-going, working in various capacities in spa and hospitality, and staying informed on the latest trends and science, we know what works.

Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation is essential to the successful operation of any spa. Not only are visibly clean spaces more inviting to guests, but thoroughly sanitizing and disinfecting all areas of a spa can be critical to the health and safety of every person who walks through its doors.

Cleaning removes germs, dirt and debris from surfaces or objects. Cleaning works by using soap (or detergent) and water to physically remove germs from surfaces. This process does not necessarily kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.

Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces or objects and is the level required for all spa surfaces and equipment. Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces or objects. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection. Sterilizing may be required in certain states for tools and implements.

Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on surfaces or objects to a safe level, as judged by public health standards or requirements. This process works by either cleaning or disinfecting surfaces or objects to lower the risk of spreading infection.

Sterilizing destroys all microscopic life. It’s typically used for tools and implements that penetrate the skin, like surgical instruments.

As industry professionals in the pre-pandemic world, we knew whether or not luxury spas were simply adhering to basic hygiene and cleanliness standards, or whether they were going above and beyond to provide their guests with medical-grade sterilization and other high-end standards that satisfy the most discerning guests.

It’s Identity Hospitality’s business to provide guidance on spa industry standards as well as five-star standards to our clients.

Now as we face the coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative that we include all protocols for disinfection and sanitization for all pathogens that may be found in the spa environment as well as how to mitigate the transmission of the coronavirus. We strongly urge you to implement all of these standards in order to bring your spas up to current guest expectations and disinfecting procedures.
